Projects
To study history is to bring a set of tools along and examine the relationships between people and their environment and each other.  Traditionally, knowledge in this area is assessed with tests, giving a snapshot of what a student knows about the events, people, and the consequences of their actions.  Projects enable us to dive deeper, to apply what we know about history to sets of examples or new situations.  History becomes not just a story, but a social science, where we can experiment with what ifs and what next.

World Cup 2002!
In 2001-2002, students developed webpages surrounding the 2002 World Cup.  Click here for more information about the project, and student pages.

In 2000-2001, students completed three in-depth projects.  Please take a look at the excellent work these students have done.

  1. Historical Elections
Honors students ran a mock campaign for President of the United States while the real election was happening.  In addition to Bush and Gore, students researched and played the roles of major historical figures from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East before 1500 CE.  Amazingly enough, a 2000-year old Chinese emperor and 14th century Muslim mathematician were elected to executive office.
  2. Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution Magazines
Students worked in teams of four to create magazines to highlight the 15th and 16th centuries in Europe.  Magazines were created in class.  At this time, no online information is available.
  3. Special Topics Around the World Since 1945
Students examined self-developed questions about the recent past, and created webpages to reflect their findings.  Topics ranged from life in Cuba and South Africa to deforestation and cricket.
