Poetry Alive!      Honor Societies
The International Club
 
  The International Club, sponsored by Mrs. Hart (Spanish teacher) and
  Ms. Wardell (English teacher), is welcoming new members. The
  International Club is an opportunity for students to share their pride in
  their heritage. The  club meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
 

 
Culture Fest - April 15, 2010
 
On Thursday, April 15th, Hammond's International
Club hosted their third annual "Culture Fest.".During 6th period, students traveled to the cafeteria to tour the world!
47 countries were represented including twelve new countries: Poland, Sierra Leone, Honduras, the Cherokee tribe, Kenya, St. Thomas, Somalia, Pakistan, Lebanon,
the Bahamas, Scotland, and the Philippines. This year, for
the first time, there was an evening component consisting		  
of an international pot-luck dinner, a fashion show sharing native costumes,
and student performances. The evening was well attended with over 125
students, family members, and staff. Guests dined on recipes from around
the globe such as red beans and rice from Haiti and jerk chicken from Jamaica.
Ms. Hart and Ms. Wardell would like to express their thanks to everyone who participated, and we hope to have even more countries represented next year!
2009-10 World Languages Honor Societies Induction Ceremony
   


The World Language Honor Societies Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6:00 pm. Students will be inducted into the Société Honoraire de Français (French), the Deutsche Ehrenverbindung (German), the Società Onoraria Italica (Italian), and the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish).

Hammond Shines at the 2009 Poetry Alive! Competition
     
Hammond HS World Language and ESOL students achieved excellent results at the 5th Annual World Language Poetry Alive Competition!

Congratulations to all Hammond High World Language and ESOL students who participated in the Poetry Alive! competition held on Tuesday, November
10, 2009 at Howard High School. Many of our students participated in both the Recitation and Writing Competition, with excellent results.

Professors from local colleges and universities, teachers and supervisors from neighboring districts, and HCPSS Central Office staff served as judges and
moderators. During intermission, the Italian Club of Hammond HS took part in
"World Language Fair." At the closing ceremony, the winners of both the poetry
recitation and writing competitions were announced. This year marked the 3rd year of the Poetry Writing event. The evening was a true celebration of languages and cultures.

We are proud of all our students for a job well done!
