The Principal's Advisory Council
, an outgrowth of the Teen Summit for School Improvement, is charged with keeping Principal Burke informed of the issues that most concern the students of Hammond High School.

Representing the Principal's Advisory Council is the Principal's Advisory Council Executive Board (PACEB). In monthly meetings with the principal, the PACEB
shares the ongoing concerns and challenges of the student body with the mission
of generating strategies that will be successful in resolving those concerns and challenges.

Principal's Advisory Council Holds Midyear Summit

On Monday, January 26, over thirty
students of the Principal's Advisory
Council
met for a special midyear
summit at Eggspectations Restaurant.
At approximately 8:00am, members of
the PAC enjoyed a hearty breakfast
after which, Mr. Sterlind S. Burke, Sr.
opened the meeting with a few words
of encouragement for his students.

Special guest, Mr. David Bruzga,
Administrative Director of Secondary
Schools, spoke with the Council
about the
progress that he has seen over the years
since he was principal at Hammond and
commended the students for their active role
in assisting the administrative staff with
their ideas and input toward school
improvement. Also in attendance was the
PTSA president, Ms. Sally Frekot.

The meeting focused on three of the six topics discussed in the June Teen Summit
meeting: Improving Homecoming and Spirit Week and Appropriate Dancing at
School Dances
, On Time Arrival To School- Where We Stand, and 21st Century
Technology in Hammond High School
. The midyear summit was deemed a huge
success by not only the Principal Advisory Council but also the facilitators, Mr.
Burke, and Mr. Bruzga. Hammond High would like to thank the management and staff of Eggspectations Restaurant for allowing us to use their restaurant for the
meeting and for the excellent service they provided in feeding nearly 40 people.

As a direct result of the efforts of the 2007-08 Principal's Advisory Council and its
Executive Board,
new lockers were installed in Hammond High this past summer,
locker times have been extended to each period, and a new marquee was purchased
for the front of the school. Student concerns over having an after-school homework
club that would provide a quiet environment in which students could both complete homework and have access to computers was shared by the PACEB with the
principal, resulting in the Afterschool Homework Club that meets in the library. The
Principal Advisory Council's Executive Board continues to work closely with administration in its goal of moving Hammond High School from good to great!
Several members of the 2007-08 Principal's
Advisory Council acted as facilitators for
the 2008 Teen Summit for School
Improvement,
held on June 23, along with
HHS staff and members of the community.
