Ensemble, and he teaches Music Theory. Mr. Eber has
received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education
(1988) and a Masters Degree in Music Education (1996)
from Towson State University; and a Certificate in

Mr. Eber plays the tuba with the Columbia Orchestra, and he is the organist at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Owensville serving the church since 1982. Bryan also directs the Emerald Band every summer at the McDaniel College Summer Band
Camp.

Mr. Eber has a very musical family to include his wife who plays the flute and
teaches band at Clemens Crossing Elementary School, and he has three children: Elizabeth (oboe), Sarah (Flute), and Andrew (French horn).

Mr. Brett Rankin
Choral/Guitar Director

Brett Rankin has been teaching music for 11 years. He has taught in Washington, DC, Baltimore, Maryland and
Florida before moving to Columbia. I have taught band,
chorus and orchestra. Mr. Rankin has traveled to Europe
with groups and have had performances up and down the
East coast. He really like having his classes perform for the
public. At Hammond High School, there are usually ten
concerts each semester in addition to festival competitions.
Before going into music, he owned his own company in

  the Baltimore/Washington area.

On a personal note, Mr. Rankin loves to travel. He has been to Africa, Asia and
Europe, and has lived in several major cities like Nashville, Atlanta, Los Angeles,
Houston, Baltimore, and Washington DC. His experience in both living and
traveling to different places helps him to give his students a broad perspective. Mr.
Rankin is married with three children: Rachel (27), Skyler (8), and Jabari (5). His
wife, Jennifer, is a teacher as well. She teaches Social Studies. I look forward to
getting to know both the parents and the students.

Ms. Elizabeth Shin
Orchestra Director
Elizabeth Shin is the Orchestra director at Hammond High School and Patuxent Valley Middle School. She graduated from University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she was principal cellist of the UMBC Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Shin continues to be actively involved in the music department at UMBC as a cellist and guest conductor. In addition to playing the cello, she also enjoys playing the piano at church.
Ms. Shin lives in Ellicott City with her parents and sister, who is a student at University of Maryland, College Park. In her free time, she likes to read or shop for shoes. During vacations, Ms. Shin loves to travel; she hopes to visit Italy and Spain sometime this year. She loves working with students and is looking forward to a
great year (and an awesome spring trip!!)
