Tuesday, August 28, will forever be remembered as the day the Governor of
Maryland visited Hammond High School. While enjoying a luncheon hosted by
Hammond High School, Governor Martin O'Malley spent over 90 minutes visiting
and speaking with students from the Principal's Advisory Council. The Principal's Advisory Council is a select group of students that is an outgrowth from and representative of the over 50 members of the Hammond High Teen Summit for
School Improvement leadership group.

Several other county government dignitaries and Howard County staff and Board
members also visited Hammond High, including Dr. Sydney Cousin,
Superintendent, Delegate Guy Guzzone, The Honorable Mr. Frank Turner from the State Delegation Office, and County Executive Ken Ulman. Governor O'Malley specifically met with groups of students to hear, first hand, their comments about their school and to gain direct knowledge of the issues that the students face. After entertaining questions from the students and sharing his personal reflections of
life in high school, Governor O'Malley was given a guided tour of the building by
Mr. Burke and the Principal's Advisory Council.
